Richard devotes his practice to civil litigation, which he has done for over 30 years.  He began his legal career as Assistant Attorney General for Alaska and then went into private practice in Alaska, where he lived for 13 years before moving to Madison.  He represented Alaska primarily in oil, gas and fisheries litigation.  Since then most of his civil litigation practice has involved disputes between businesses or business owners, although he has handled a variety of other matters.  His goal in each matter is to work closely with his client to properly balance the risks and rewards of each available strategy, to select the strategy most likely to achieve the greatest benefit for his client, and to pursue it in an efficient, cost effective manner.
